Betty Farr, PE attends BMP Certification Renewal Workshop

Jewell Engineering Consultants (JEC) employee Betty Farr, PE recently attended the Certified Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) Inspection & Maintenance Professional review workshop and received a renewal of her certification to perform BMP inspection and maintenance that expires December 31, 2012. The NC Division of Water Quality (DWQ) under the authority of the Environmental Management Commission (EMC) has developed a variety of stormwater programs to protect the waters of the State.

The primary strategy for these programs is to minimize impervious surfaces and to treat stormwater runoff using BMP’s. DWQ provides and maintains a BMP Manual which offers guidance in designing and maintaining BMP’s around the state. BMP structures must be inspected annually and maintained according to the State guidelines. Certification for stormwater BMP inspection & maintenance began approximately 3 years ago in cooperation with the NC Cooperative Extension and the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at NC State University to train and update professionals in the performance, design, maintenance and inspection of BMP’s.

The re-certification workshop was held July 22, 2009 at the Agriculture Extension Office located at 3309 Burlington Road, Greensboro, NC. Attendees received certification renewals upon successful completion of the workshop.
