In order to address long standing problems with water shortages, the Town of Siler City has undertaken a major expansion of one of two existing reservoirs on the Rocky River north of town. JEWELL Engineering Consultants (JEC) was responsible for preparation and submittal of an application for a Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) to the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program. The reservoir expansion entails construction of a new dam, approximately twelve feet higher than the existing dam. JEC utilized HEC-GeoRAS to generate a GIS file for the proposed floodplain revisions, based on an updated hydraulic model incorporating the proposed dam. The extensive remapping required for the CLOMR submittal involved three separate Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). The CLOMR was issued on June 26, 2009. |
