New Major Stream Crossing at New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC

The City of Greensboro plans to widen New Garden Road and the project involves replacing a small bridge over a tributary to Horsepen Creek. JEWELL Engineering Consultants (JEC) designed a new bottomless arch culvert to replace the bridge; designed an associated stream restoration and relocation; prepared all construction drawings, specifications and documents for the culvert and stream work; and obtained regulatory permits for the project. Since the stream is regulated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the project also involved preparation and approval of a no-rise certification. The construction contract was recently awarded and construction is anticipated in the summer of 2009.
